Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY - Solid pitching and four multi-hit efforts push the Louisville Bats (37-54) 10-6 past the Nashville Sounds (55-36) on Saturday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
Much like Friday night's contest, Nashville was hot out of the gate as the Sounds plated two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead.
After the shaky first inning, Reds' rehabber Justin Dunn (0-2, 5.50) settled in to retire the next six batters in a row and nine of the next ten he faced, striking out three.
The Bats struggled at the plate early as they were sat down in order through the first three innings. Jose Barrero finally got Louisville going in the fourth, lacing a leadoff double to kick off four straight base hits, capped off by a three-run bomb from Colin Moran to give the Bats a 4-2 lead.
Both clubs tallied a run in the sixth before Louisville broke the game open in the seventh, scoring four more runs on five hits and a walk to extend its lead to 9-3.
The Bats tacked on one more run in the eighth before the Sounds attempted a rally in the ninth, scoring three runs before Fernando Cruz came on to close out the game and earn his league-high tying 15th save of the season.
Four Bats' hitters tallied multi-hit performances, Barrero and Moran and Reds' rehabbers Jake Fraley and Aristides Aquino, combining for ten hits, eight runs and eight runs-batted in with only strikeout. Barrero led the sluggers with three hits, while Moran tallied a team-high four RBI.
Louisville and Nashville will play the third and final game of the series tomorrow as the Bats look to win their second consecutive home series with first pitch set for 1:05 pm E.T. Southpaw Brandon Williamson (1-2, 4.85) will get the ball for the Bats, taking on Brewers' rehabbing right-hander Freddy Peralta (0-0, 0.00) for the Sounds.
