Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (46-45) got shutout 10-0 to the Iowa Cubs (41-50) in game two-of-four. The series is now tied 1-1, and Iowa holds a 4-10 season-series lead.
Center fielder Drew Waters reached on a four pitch walk to start the bottom of the first, but three consecutive strikeouts ended the Chasers opportunity.
Shortstop Iván Castillo recorded Omaha's first hit in the bottom of the second, hitting a double but ending up stranded after another Chaser strikeout.
Right-hander Zach Willeman (Loss, 2-2) pitched the fourth and started the fifth before allowing Iowa to get on the scoreboard first. The I-Cubs used a rally to open the scoring before capitalizing on an Omaha fielding error that allowed Iowa to launch a homer to break the game open at 7-0.
In the top of the sixth, Iowa used another home run to lead off the inning before putting a few hits together top push the deficit to nine.
In the seventh, shortstop Clay Dungan got a two-out hit but Omaha again came up empty in the frame.
Omaha was kept off the scoreboard to close the game, the seventh time this year that Omaha has been shutout, and just the second time it has happened at home.
The Storm Chasers and the I-Cubs will face off Sunday for game three with first pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Coverage will start at 4:45 p.m. on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone.
Tomorrow's game is a Canned Food Sunday presented by Hy-Vee. Fans that bring three non-perishable food items will receive a free berm ticket. Kids will have the opportunity to run the bases postgame and it is Freemont, Valley, and Blair Community Night.
