Woollard selected for 2004 Dodge CHL All Star Game
January 5, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Fort Worth â To say that left wing Chad Woollard has been the leader of the Fort Worth Brahmas this season would be an understatement. After all, Fort Worth's team captain is tops on the Brahmas in virtually every offensive category, including goals (12), assists (15), points (27), shots (127), game winning goals (2), shorthanded goals (2), and first goals (4). He is also tied for the team lead in powerplay goals with (4).
Because of his efforts this season, Woollard was chosen today by the Central Hockey League to play in the 2004 Dodge CHL All Star Game that will be played on Thursday, January 22, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Woollard was one of eleven players named as reserves to the Northern Conference squad that will take on the Southern Conference squad in the CHL's annual mid-season game. He was the only Brahmas player named to the team.
This is the second career, and second consecutive, All Star selection for Woollard. Last season, Woollard was the single Fort Worth player chosen to play in the 2003 CHL All Star Game that was played at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. At last year's All Star festivities, Woollard won the Accuracy Shootout in the All Star Skills Challenge and scored a goal in the Northern Conference's 10-6 loss to the Southern Conference.
A native of Durham, Ontario, Woollard is the tenth Brahmas player in the seven year history of the franchise to earn All Star recognition, joining former Brahmas Cosmo Dupaul, Rob Laurie, Terry Menard, Steve Plouffe, Mark Strohack, Ross Harris, Justin Cardwell, Kory Cooper and Mike Tilson in that elite club.
Brahmas head coach Al Sims said that Woollard is certainly deserving of the All Star recognition.
"No doubt about it," said Sims, "Chad is a big time player who has played outstanding for us this season. He's dominated several games on his own this year. Being chosen as an All Star is a just reward for his efforts and I'm looking forward to seeing him play in Albuquerque."
Woollard, as is his nature, gave credit for his individual honor to his teammates.
"Needless to say, I am very excited to be chosen as an All Star. It is an honor that I am very proud of, and it feels great to be recognized for my efforts this season. I have to give the majority of the credit to my teammates though. Players like Aaron Davis, Jeff Scharf, Adam Davis, Derrell Uptonâthey have all done their jobs this season and given me the opportunity to score and put up points. Any one of those guys could have been chosen for the All Star game and been just as deserving as me," he said.
The All Star selection for Woollard comes on the heels of his best stretch of hockey this season. In his last ten games, he has six goals and six assists, helping the Brahmas to a 6-2-2 record over that time period.
Woollard and his Brahmas teammates will be back on the ice this weekend for three games in three nights at the Fort Worth Convention Center. On Friday, January 9, the Brahmas will host the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, January 10, the Memphis RiverKings come to town for a 7:30 contest. Then on Sunday, January 11, Fort Worth will take on the Lubbock Cotton Kings at 3:00 p.m. For more information, please contact the Brahmas office at (817) 336-4423.
