Week In Review â The Saints went 2-0-1 this week with a New Year's Eve win over Odessa at home, a road shoot-out win over Rio Grande Valley and a road overtime loss to Laredo.
Dec 31st / Odessa 3 - San Angelo 4 / Odessa jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but 1st period goals by Steve Roberts and Chris Minard put the Saints up 2-1 heading to the 2nd period. The Jacks re-took the lead with two goals in the first 10:23 of the 2nd period â but the Saints answered back with Trevor Weisgerber's power-play goal to tie the game by the end of the frame. Scott Lega's unassisted goal early in the 3rd period proved to be the game-winner as the Saints also had a goal disallowed later in the 3rd despite referee Fred LeCuyer twice signaling goal, but ultimately changing his mind. Scott Reid posted 42 saves for the victory.
Jan 2nd / San Angelo 4 - Rio Grande Valley 3 (SO) / The Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead by midway through the 2nd period on goals by Ryan Finnerty, Scott Lega and Chris Minard. But, the Killer Bees fought back with three unanswered goals of their own to send the game to overtime. After a scoreless overtime, Scott Reid stopped all four shoot-out attempts by the Bees, while Steve Roberts and Dan Reja each scored for the Saints. Roberts was credited with the game winner and Reid posted 37 saves for the win.
Jan 3rd / San Angelo 3 - Laredo 4 (OT) / Jarett Metz gave the Saints a 1-0 first period lead, but the Bucks controlled much of the 2nd period and went up 2-1 on two goals by Chris Grenville. The Saints then tied the game late in the 2nd period on Andy Doktorchik's power-play goal. The Bucks went back on top early in the 3rd period, but Chris Minard stuffed home a rebound to tie the game and send it to overtime, earning the Saints at least a point for the night. Jeff Bes scored on a nifty backhand 1:34 into the overtime to win it for the Bucks.
Player Moves: Dusty Hunter and Scott Mahar remain on Injured Reserve. Defenseman John Jarram is eligible to come off IR this week â but another move will have to be made before he can be added back to the line-up.
