
Ice and Scorpions this Weekend at the Pepsi Coliseum

ALL STAR PART TWO: Left winger Jason Baird was selected as a Northern Conference reserve for the 2003-04 Dodge CHL All-Star Game that will take place on Thursday, January 22 from the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Baird, who currently ranks tenth overall in the CHL in scoring (40 points), will be making his first appearance in the mid-season classic. The well-rounded forward leads all Ice players in goals (16), plus/minus (+16), penalty minutes (99), game-winning goals (4) and three-or-more point games (4).
A REDMOND RECKONING: Adam Redmond continued his recent offensive barrage with another weekend to remember in the two wins over Corpus Christi. The rookie centerman tallied the game-winning goal in both wins to go along with a shorthanded goal, power play goal and his first multiple goal game as a pro. He is riding a five-game point streak and is the team's top scorer overall during the stretch with eight points (4G, 4A).
TRAPPER JOHN: With two assists in Saturday's win over Corpus Christi, Bernie John moved into a tie for fifth for most points by a defensemen in CHL/WPHL history. His 318 points ties him with former CHL defenseman Gatis Tseplis and he now only trails Hardy Sauter (w/Oklahoma City- 608 points), Dave Doucette (421 points), Igor Bondarev (w/Colorado- 379 points) and Jamie Hearn (373 points).
PLAYER NEWS: Bernie John, who leads all CHL d-men in scoring with 41 points, is riding a seven-game point and assist streak (10A)....Jason Baird is on a three-game goal streak and he has six points (3G, 3A) in his last three games and 18 points (6G, 12A) in his last ten games....Jared Dumba has four points (2G, 2A) in his last three games, while Joe Guenther has five points (3G, 2A) in his last four games...John (41 pts), Baird (40 pts) and Dumba (39 pts) comprise of three of the top 11 point producers in the CHL at the moment...Nate Elliott tallied his first goal of the year in Saturday's win.
TEAM NEWS: The Ice has at least a power play goal in four consecutive games and ranks second overall in the category (33-165, 20.0%)...With two one-goal wins this weekend, the Ice improved to 8-7-1 in one-goal games this year....Despite the win on Saturday, the Ice recorded season lows for shots in a period (4) and shots in a game (22)....The Ice is 1-1-0 this year against Tulsa, 1-3-0 against Oklahoma City and 1-0-0 against New Mexico.
UPCOMING ON SATURDAY: Saturday night's game from the Pepsi Coliseum will feature a pre-game concert from Christian Pop and Contemporary Artist, Shaun Groves. Groves, who just released his second album, "Twilight" is a six-time Dove Award nominee and has two number one hits on his resume. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. with the concert slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. Normal price of admission ($10-$20) includes the concert and game.

LATE PERIOD WOES GIVE "KINGS" 5-3 WIN
· After the Ice took a 3-1 lead, Memphis tallied four unanswered goals in the final two periods to pull out the New Year's Eve win...Scoring goals for the Icemen were Dave Gilmore, Jason Baird and Joe Guenther.
ICE, REDMOND SLIDE BY RAYZ 4-3
· Adam Redmond's second goal of the game with just :15 left in regulation sealed the victory for the Ice....Jason Baird and Jared Dumba combined for five points in the win, while Brent Zelenewich stopped 23 shots for his seventh win of the year.
ICE NETS RAYZ 4-3 ONCE AGAIN
· Adam Redmond netted the game-winner for the second straight night, while Nate Elliott, Jason Baird and Jared Dumba also had lamplighters...Jeff Sanger made 28 saves for his 11th win of the year.
