'Wolves Shut Out by Portland, 1-0

The SeaWolves dropped their eighth consecutive game as they were shut out, 1-0 in the opener of a three-game series at Hadlock Field against the Portland Sea Dogs.

The scoreless tie was broken in the bottom of the fifth inning against Erie starter Duane Below. Yamaico Navarro led off with a single and advanced to second on an error. Navarro scored on a two-out RBI double by Matt Sheely for the games only run.

The SeaWolves had runners on base in the first seven innings and runners in scoring position in five of those seven and could not plate a run. The club went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Erie's pitching staff shined one again but it was not enough to support the struggling offense. Below worked five innings, allowing a run on four hits with a walk and a strikeout. Below has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in nine of his last 10 starts.

Relievers Anthony Shawler and Zach Simons kept the ‘Wolves in the game tossing three scoreless innings following Below.

The SeaWolves are now a season-worst 11-games under .500 and the club has been shut out in three of the last five games.

Since taking over first place on May 19, the ‘Wolves have gone on to lose 21 of their last 24 games.

Erie has now lost eight straight games on three occasions this season.

The ‘Wolves continue their six-game road trip on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field...7:00 First Pitch. Righty Thad Weber (3-7, 4.09 ERA) takes the mound for the ‘Wolves against RHP Alex Wilson (0-0, 0.00 ERA) for the Sea Dogs.
