New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - Brian Jeroloman's two-run single snapped a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning, and Shawn Bowman's two-run home run in the seventh provided the insurance in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats' 6-3 victory over the Akron Aeros before a crowd of 6,371 on Tuesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. By earning their 40th win of the season, the Fisher Cats moved to 15 games above .500 for the first time this season.
New Hampshire (40-25) strung together three straight two-out singles off Akron starter and losing pitcher Scott Barnes in the bottom of the sixth. Bowman (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) led off the frame with a single and, two outs later, Callix Crabbe (2-for-4, R) and Danny Perales (2-for-4, R, SB) singled to load the bases. Jeroloman (1-for-4, 2 RBI) then lined a single to right, plating Bowman and Crabbe for a 4-2 lead.
After Manny Mayorson (2-for-3, BB, R) drew a leadoff walk in the seventh, Bowman put it out of reach by launching a Bryan Price offering onto the patio in left-center field for his 10th homer, staking the Fisher Cats to a 6-3 lead.
Adrian Martin (2-1) earned the win despite yielding a leadoff homer to Jason Kipnis, his first, in the sixth inning that allowed the Aeros (32-32) to knot the score, 2-2, and surrendering a run-scoring bases-loaded ground out to Jordan Henry (0-for-3, RBI, BB) in the seventh, reducing the Fishers' lead to 4-3. Martin allowed two runs on three hits in 1.1 innings, with one walk.
Tim Collins notched 1.2 perfect innings of relief, bridging the lead to Danny Farquhar, who allowed one hit in one shutout inning to record his Eastern League-leading 15th save.
Barnes (2-6) allowed four runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings, with four strikeouts and a walk in the losing effort.
Eric Thames (1-for-4, RBI) staked the Fisher Cats to a 1-0 lead with a first-inning RBI single, scoring Darin Mastroianni, who had walked.
Akron tied the game, 1-1, on Jerad Head's solo shot, his second, off Fisher Cats' starter B.J. LaMura in the top of the fifth. That would be the only run allowed by LaMura, who scattered five hits and walked one, with four strikeouts, in five innings.
Mastroianni (1-for-3, BB, RBI, R) knocked in Perales, who had singled and stolen base, with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fifth for a 2-1 lead.
New Hampshire and Akron meet for the middle game of their three-game series on Wednesday night at 7:05pm with the Fisher Cats sending right-hander Kyle Drabek (7-5, 3.24) to the mound to face Aeros' left-hander Eric Berger (3-4, 5.65) in a 7:05pm game. Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy.
Wednesday night is U.S. Cellular Most Improved Student Night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium, and fans will get the chance to play USA Subs Baseball Bingo.
