HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. --- The Chicago Wolves capped off their preseason with a 3-0 win over the Milwaukee Admirals Saturday night at Triphahn Center Ice Arena.
Chicago goaltender Jake Allen (1-0-0) turned away all 27 shots he faced against the Admirals (1-1-0-0), earning the shutout in his first game with the Wolves.
Former American Hockey League Most Valuable Player Corey Locke broke open the scoring for Chicago (1-1-1-0) when he found the back of the net in the beginning of the second period. Left wing Shane Harper sent a breakaway pass up ice during a penalty kill that left Locke alone against Admirals goaltender Magnus Hellberg (1-1-0), whom he beat with a shot over Hellberg's glove-side shoulder.
Chicago padded its lead late in the third period as left wing Sergey Andronov found a rebound in front of the net and beat Milwaukee goaltender Scott Darling. He made 18 saves after replacing Hellberg, who made 10 saves, midway through the game.
Right wing Mike Davies iced the win with his second goal of the preseason, an empty-net tally with just more than a minute left in the game.
The Wolves open the regular season on the road Oct. 4 against the San Antonio Rampage at 7:30 p.m. The home opener is scheduled for Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. against the Rampage at Allstate Arena. For tickets, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or visit ChicagoWolves.com.
