Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
COBOURG, ONTARIO - Hamilton Bulldogs forward Patrick Holland got the 'Dogs on the board with a powerplay goal mid-way through the third period, but that was all the offense Hamilton could muster as they fell to the Toronto Marlies 2-1 on Saturday evening in Cobourg, Ontario.
Toronto forward Sam Carrick beat Hamilton goaltender Dustin Tokarski to open the scoring at 13:14 of the first period, with assists going to forward Brad Ross and defenceman Jesse Blacker. Just over four minutes later, Toronto forward Wade MacLeod ripped a shot over Tokarski's glove to put the Marlies ahead 2-0.
After no scoring in the second period, Holland got Hamilton on the board with a powerplay marker at 9:25 of the third period with a rip from the point. Defenceman Drew Schiestel drew the only assist.
It was a fight-filled affair, with three more fights in addition to the fisticuffs that took place in Friday night's match-up in Oakville, Ontario - signs that the two teams will have a heated rivalry once again this season. The Bulldogs and Marlies will play each other 12 times during the regular season.
Garret Sparks started in goal for Toronto, with Christopher Gibson taking over mid-way through the second period. The two goaltenders teamed up to make 23 saves on 24 shots. The Bulldogs went 1-for-3 on the powerplay. The Marlies went 0-for-4 on the powerplay.
