
Wolves Roche Named to All-Star Team

Chicago Wolves defenseman Travis Roche has been named to the American Hockey League¹s Canadian All-Star Team in the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic, which will take place at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H., on Mon., Feb. 14, at 6 p.m.
The 26-year-old blueliner is tied for second among AHL defensemen with nine goals and sixth with 27 points in 40 games.
This is the second AHL All-Star appearance for Roche, who represented the Houston Aeros in 2003. That season, he helped lead Houston to the Calder Cup Championship with five assists and eight points in 23 playoff games. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound defenseman accumulated regular-season career-highs with 14 goals, 34 assists and 48 points in 65 games. His 14 goals ranked fifth among AHL defenseman, while his 48 points shared fifth among league blueliners.
Last year, Roche earned his first National Hockey League point with one assist in five games with the Minnesota Wild. He also led Houston with 30 assists and shared third on the club with 38 points in 60 games.
The Grand Cache, Alberta, native has played 10 NHL games in parts of three seasons with Minnesota (2000-2002 and 2003-04), making his professional debut after finishing his college career at the University of North Dakota in 2000-01. Roche, who was named the AHL¹s Man of the Year for community service following the 2001-02 season, has also posted 44 goals, 103 assists and 147 points in 225 career AHL contests with Houston (2001-2004) and Chicago (2004-05).
Roche is one of 22 skaters and three goaltenders comprising the Canadian All-Star Team. The annual event kicks off with the 2005 AHL All-Star Skills Competition between the PlanetUSA and Canadian All-Stars on Sun., Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. The annual All-Star Game will be televised live nationally on ESPN2 in the United States and on Rogers Sportnet in Canada.
