Steve Eminger named to Canadian AHL All-Star team

PORTLAND, ME - Pirates defenseman Steve Eminger has been named to the Canadian AHL All-Star team which was announced today by the American Hockey League. This year's AHL All-Star Game will be on February 14th at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H.

Eminger has played in 34 of the Pirates 44 games this season with 14 points (1 goal, 13 assists) and 24 penalty minutes. He started the 2004-05 season with a four game point-scoring streak and has registered two multiple point efforts. This year marks the first All-Star appearance for the 6'2", 200 pound Toronto native, who was drafted by Washington in the first round (12th overall) of the 2002 Entry Draft.

AHL fans determined the starting line-up via on-line balloting at theahl.com, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the roster. More Pirates players may make in to Manchester on the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team when the team's roster is announced on Thursday.

Of the 328 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 92 percent have competed in the NHL, including Daniel Briere, Andrew Brunette, Anson Carter, Pavol Demitra, Rick DiPietro, J.P. Dumont, Patrik Elias, Manny Legace, John Madden, Ladislav Nagy, Vaclav Prospal, Martin St. Louis, Marc Savard, Steve Sullivan and Tomas Vokoun.

The 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will take place at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H., home of the AHL's Manchester Monarchs. The event gets underway on Sunday, February 13, with the 2005 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00 p.m. (ET). The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on Monday, February 14, and will be televised live nationally on ESPN2 in the United States and on Rogers Sportnet in Canada.

The Pirates next home game will be Saturday, Hockey Night in Portland, as the Pirates face the Providence Bruins 7:05 p.m. It will be Dunkin' Donuts Night! The first 2,500 fans will receive a Dunkin' Donuts travel mug and free hot chocolate samples will be available in the lobby. It will also be New England Patriots Cheerleaders Night. The Cheerleaders will perform during the first intermission, and sign autographs during the second intermission.
