Chuck Kobasew and Eric Staal named to Dodge AHL All Star Classic

Lowell, MA - The American Hockey League announced today that Lock Monsters right wing Chuck Kobasew and center Eric Staal have been named to Team Canada for the 2005 Dodge AHL All Star Classic. The PlanetUSA roster will be announced on Thursday.

A first-round draft choice by the Calgary Flames in 2001, Kobasew leads the Lock Monsters in goal scoring with 23 goals, and has recorded 43 points (23g, 20a) through 39 games with the Lock Monsters this season. A native of Osoyoos, BC, the 22 year old winger, appeared in 70 regular season games with the Calgary Flames during the 2003-04 campaign, posting 17 points (6g, 11a) and 51 PIMs. He posted 33 points (21g, 12a) through 48 games with the AHL's Saint John Flames during the 2002-03 season.

Staal, a first round draft choice by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2003, leads the Lock Monsters in point scoring with 44 points (12g, 32a) through 37 games this season. A native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, the 20 year old center registered 31 points (11g, 20a) in his rookie season with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2003-04.

The 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will take place at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. The event gets underway on Sunday, February 13, with the 2005 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00 p.m. (ET). The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on Monday, February 14, and will be televised live nationally on ESPN2 in the United States and on Rogers Sportnet in Canada.
