Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH – The Manchester Monarchs, the top affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, and the American Hockey League announced on Wednesday the Canadian AHL All-Star team roster for the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic, to be played at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester on February 13-14. The team comprises players born in Canada. AHL fans determined the starting lineup via on-line balloting at theahl.com, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the roster.

Representing the Monarchs on the roster are center Michael Cammalleri (starter), goaltender Mathieu Garon, right wing Tom Kostopoulos (injured) and center Yanick Lehoux (injured). Kostopoulos and Lehoux are not expected to participate in the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic because of injuries.

Cammalleri, 22, leads the Monarchs and is second in the league in scoring with 61 points (28-33=61) in 42 games. The first-time all-star leads the AHL with 28 goals. The Kings selected Cammalleri, a native of Richmond Hill, Ontario, in the second-round (49th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Garon, 27, is tied for third in the league with 21 wins (21-7-1) and shares the league lead with five shutouts. The first-time all-star is also fifth in the league with a 2.00 goals-against-average and a .933 save-percentage. The Montreal Canadiens originally selected Garon, a native of Chandler, Quebec, in the second-round (44th overall) in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. The Kings acquired Garon from the Canadiens last summer.

Kostopoulos, 26, is third on the Monarchs and sixth in the league in scoring with 48 points (18-30=48) in 39 games. The second-time all-star is also third in the league with five game-winning goals. The Pittsburgh Penguins originally selected Kostopoulos, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, in the seventh-round (104th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Kostopoulos signed a free agent contract with the Monarchs last summer.

Lehoux, 22, is second on the Monarchs and fourth in the league with 54 points (23-31=54) in 38 games. The first-time all-star leads the Monarchs and the league with a shooting percentage of .253 (23 goals on 91 shots). The Kings selected Lehoux, a native or Repentigny, Quebec, in the third-round (86th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Among the remaining members of the Canadian team are eight former first-round draft picks: BinghamtonÂ’s Jason Spezza (2nd overall in 2001), LowellÂ’s Eric Staal (2nd in 2003), San AntonioÂ’s Jay Bouwmeester (3rd in 2002), CincinnatiÂ’s Joffrey Lupul (7th in 2002), ManitobaÂ’s Nolan Baumgartner (10th in 1994), MilwaukeeÂ’s Dan Hamhuis (12th in 2001), PortlandÂ’s Steve Eminger (12th in 2002) and LowellÂ’s Chuck Kobasew (14th in 2001).

Other notable names on the Canadian roster include 2005 World Junior Championships MVP Patrice Bergeron (Providence), reigning AHL MVP Jason LaBarbera (Hartford) and 2004 Stanley Cup champion Eric Perrin (Hershey). Milwaukee Admirals defenseman Brad Tiley was selected to captain the Canadian team, his third career AHL All-Star Classic appearance. And because he led Milwaukee to the Calder Cup championship in 2004, Claude Noel will serve as the head coach for the Canadian AHL All-Star team.

The PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team roster, made up of players born outside of Canada, will be announced on Thursday.

The 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will take place at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester next month. The event gets underway on Sunday, February 13, with the 2005 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00 p.m. (ET). The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on Monday, February 14, and will be televised live nationally on ESPN2 in the United States and on Rogers Sportnet in Canada.
