San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO – Jan. 26, 2005 – The American Hockey League announced today that San Antonio Rampage defenseman Jay Bouwmeester was among 22 skaters and three goaltenders named to the Canadian roster for the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic, to be played next month at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire.

AHL fans determined the starting lineup via on-line balloting at theahl.com, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the roster. The PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team roster will be announced on Thursday.

Bouwmeester, 21, will be making his first AHL All-Star game appearance. He is the fourth player to be nominated to represent the Rampage in the annual event joining Filip Novak (2003), Eric Beaudoin (2004), and Denis Shvidki (2004). Beaudoin was originally selected to play for Team Canada in the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but did not play due to recall to the National Hockey League. Shvidki was named as Beaudoin's replacement and represented the Rampage on the PlanetUSA team.

Bouwmeester has appeared in 46 games for the Rampage this year, recording 14 points on 10 assists and four goals. In his rookie season in the NHL, Bouwmeester was selected to play in the NHL Young Stars game during the 2003 All-Star weekend in Sunrise, Florida, where he recorded an assist.

The Edmonton, Alberta native has tallied two multiple-point nights so far this season, including a three-point night (two goals, one assist) in Cincinnati on Oct. 29. 2004.

The 6-foot-4, 219-pound blueliner was Florida's first choice (third overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

The event gets underway on Sunday, February 13, with the 2005 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 7 p.m. (ET). The annual All-Star Game follows at 7 p.m. (ET) on Monday, February 14, and will be televised live nationally on ESPN2 in the United States and on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada.

Of the 328 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 92 percent have competed in the NHL, including Daniel Briere, Andrew Brunette, Anson Carter, Pavol Demitra, Rick DiPietro, J.P. Dumont, Patrik Elias, Manny Legace, John Madden, Ladislav Nagy, Vaclav Prospal, Martin St. Louis, Marc Savard, Steve Sullivan and Tomas Vokoun.
