
Penguins Forward Michel Ouellet named to Canadian All-Star team

WILKES-BARRE, PA - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins right wing Michel Ouellet was named as a starting forward for the Canadian AHL All-Star team in the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Game on Monday, February 14 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H.
The team (22 skaters and three goaltenders) comprises of players born in Canada. AHL fans determined the starting lineup via on-line balloting at theahl.com, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the roster.
The PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team roster will be announced on Thursday.
Ouellet, who will be appearing in his first AHL All-star game, was voted as a starter to the Canadian AHL All-Star team along with Binghamton Senators center Jason Spezza, Manchester Monarchs center Mike Cammalleri, Hartford Wolf Pack defenseman Lawrence Nycholat, Worcester IceCats defenseman Dennis Wideman and Wolf Pack goaltender Jason LaBarbera
The 6-foot, 202-pound native of Rimouski, Quebec leads the Penguins in scoring this season with 44 points (27+17) in 42 games. He ranks among the league leaders in goals, shooting percentage (fourth with a 22.7 percentage), plus/minus rating (tied for fifth with a plus-23 rating) and scoring (T-11TH).
An AHL All-Rookie selection last season, he led the Penguins in scoring with 49 points (30+19) in 79 games in 2003-04. Ouellet also led all AHL rookies in goals, power-play goals (12), game-winning goals (7) and ranked fifth in scoring. In his first full season with the Penguins, he set new team records for game-winning goals in a season and goals by a rookie.
Ouellet, 22, played four seasons (1998-2002) with Rimouski of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, recording 299 points (125+174) and 164 penalty minutes in 224 games. A member of the 2000 Memorial Cup champion team, he twice recorded 40 goals in a season (2000-01, 2001-02), including a career-high 42 in 2000-01.
Ouellet was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth round (124TH overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
The 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic gets underway on Sunday, February 13, with the 2005 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00 p.m. (ET). The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on Monday, February 14, and will be televised live nationally on ESPN2 in the United States and on Rogers Sportnet in Canada.
