
'Wolves Left Thunder Struck on Wednesday

The Erie SeaWolves, despite a late comeback charge, could not overcome an early deficit as they dropped the middle game of a three-game series to the Trenton Thunder, 7-4, on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park.
Trenton delivered the game's opening punch in the third inning off of Erie starter Zack Segovia. Addison Maruszak led off with a double and was sacrificed over to third. He scored on an Abraham Almonte base hit for a 1-0 lead. Trenton loaded the bases with a Jose Pirela single and Cody Johnson walk. Almonte scored on a catchers interference making 2-0.
Trenton went back to work in the fifth. Zoilo Almonte led off with a double and scored on a one-out Melky Mesa double. Mesa was doubled home with two outs by Jose Gil for a 4-0 lead. Maruszak capped off a three-run inning with a base hit, scoring Gil for a 5-0 lead.
Trenton added to its lead in the seventh. Mesa reaching first on a walk and Luke Murton followed with a two-run home run into left field, giving the Thunder a commanding 7-0 lead.
The SeaWolves would get on the board in the bottom half of the seventh. Tony Plagman drew a leadoff walk and he was doubled home by Brandon Douglas making it 7-1.
Erie would get another run in the eighth inning with Jaime Johnson and Niuman Romero leading off with back-to-back walks. Rawley Bishop would get Johnson home on an RBI single, chipping the Trenton lead to 7-2.
Erie attempted to rally in the ninth against reliever Ryan Pope. Michael Rockett blasted a one-out home run making it a 7-3 game. The solo blast was the first of the season for Rockett. With two outs, Johnson, who earlier extended his season-best hit streak to nine games, doubled and came home on a Romero knock making it 7-4. The 'Wolves would get no closer.
Segovia (5-6) took the loss allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
The SeaWolves and Thunder meet in the rubber game of the series on Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park.7:05 First Pitch. The SeaWolves will send LHP Jared Wesson (4-2, 5.83 ERA) to the mound against RHP Mikey O'Brien (2-1, 3.65 ERA).
