June 6, 2012 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
Wednesday night at Metro Bank Park the Harrisburg Senators rallied from three runs down for the second consecutive night to defeat the Binghamton Mets 4-3. The win guarantees a series win for the Senators, just their second at Metro Bank Park this year. The win was also the fourth straight for the Senators and the move six games over.500 at 32-26.
Binghamton tagged Senators' starting pitcher Mike Ballard for five hits in the first inning, including three straight extra-base hits that opened the scoring. Matt Den Dekker hit a one-out double and scored when the next batter Josh Rodriguez tripled him home. Rodriguez then came home to score on a triple, this time by Jefry Marte. Binghamton added a third run on an RBI single by Juan Lagares, and then loaded the bases before Ballard struck out Binghamton pitcher Collin McHugh to end the inning with the B-Mets on top 3-0.
Harrisburg responded with a leadoff double by Eury Perez. Perez scored when the next batter, Manny Mayorson, singled to put the Sens on the board. Harrisburg plated another run in the second as Chris Rahl began the frame with a single and later scored a single by Devin Ivany.
At that point, both starters settled in. Ballard, who allowed seven hits with five going for extra-bases in the first two innings, responded by allowing just three hits over the next four innings. During that span, he also kept Binghamton off of the board. Binghamton stranded a runner in scoring position in the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th innings.
McHugh on the other hand pitched two outs into the seventh inning leaving with his team ahead 3-2. However, Harrisburg had two men on for Eury Perez with new pitcher Robert Carson in the game. Perez lined a double down the right field line, plating both Senator runners to give Harrisburg a 4-3 lead.
Erik Davis recorded the game's final six outs, while striking out four in the process to pick up his fourth save of the season. Binghamton had two runners thrown out at the plate in the game and the game ended on a batter's interference.
Harrisburg goes for its first sweep of the season Thursday evening in the series finale with Binghamton. Harrisburg sends LH Danny Rosenbaum against Binghamton RH Zack Wheeler. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Metro Bank Park, with coverage beginning at 6:40 p.m. for the Senators Pre-Game Show. The game can be heard locally on 1460am WTKT and through either the Senators website or through the iHeart Radio mobile application.
