Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, ME - The Portland Sea Dogs used a five run first inning to propel them to an 8-5 win over the Bowie Baysox Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. The win was Portland's second straight over Bowie as the Sea Dogs improve to 25-33 on the season.
Oscar Tejeda and Juan Carlos Linares each had three hits and Dan Butler connected for a three run homer to lead the Portland offensive attack. Linares extended his hit streak to a season high nine games and raised his average to .344.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Sea Dogs sent eight men to the plate scoring five times in the bottom half of the inning. Eastern League Player of the Month, Bryce Brentz, delivered a two run single and Butler blasted his second home run of the series and fourth of the year, a three run shot, to highlight the inning.
The Orioles affiliate rebounded with three runs in the top of the second off Stolmy Pimentel to pull within a run at 5-4. Buck Britton produced the big hit with a two run double.
Linares chipped-in with a RBI single off Bobby Bundy (2-8) in the bottom of the second as the Sea Dogs went up 6-4.
Pimentel yielded four runs (three earned) on four hits in four innings pitched. He walked four and struck out one. He did not factor into the decision.
The Sea Dogs received an outstanding relief outing from Marco Duarte (1-0), who earned his first Double-A win tossing three scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, walked a batter, and notched two strikeouts.
Tejeda and Reynaldo Rodriguez each added a RBI double in the seventh to extend the Portland lead to 8-4.
Bowie added a run in the top of the ninth inning when Josh Barfield scored on a Brock Huntzinger wild pitch.
