Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

HARRISBURG, PA - For the second straight night, the Harrisburg Senators scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, defeating the Binghamton Mets in comeback fashion by a 4-3 score Wednesday night at Metro Bank Park. Eury Perez ripped a go-ahead, two-run double off Robert Carson to lead the Senators to victory.

The B-Mets pounded out 13 hits in the game, but compiled just three runs, all coming home in the first inning. Matt den Dekker started the rally in the first by doubling to right against starter Mike Ballard. Josh Rodriguez brought him home by launching a triple to left center. Jefry Marte followed with a triple of his own, lacing a three-bagger to center. Juan Lagares capped the run-scoring attack by bouncing an RBI single up the middle.

The Senators had a quick response in their first turn at bat. Perez led off by ripping a double to right against B-Mets starter Collin McHugh. Manny Mayorson got Harrisburg on the board by sending an RBI double down the left field line. Devin Ivany cut the lead down to one with an RBI single in the second.

McHugh shook off his shaky first two innings and settled in. After the hit to Ivany, the righty retired 13 of the next 16 Senators, allowing just one hit over the stretch. His good fortune came to an end in the seventh. He hit Ivany with a pitch and surrendered a pinch hit double to Jimmy Van Ostrand. The hit ended his night.

With the B-Mets clinging to a 3-2 lead, Robert Carson entered the game with the tying run on third and go-ahead run at second. The lefty could not preserve the lead. The first batter her faced, Perez, shot a 1-0 offering down the right field line for a two-run double.

After scoring three runs in the first, the B-Mets never touched home again in the game. Ballard capped his night with five scoreless innings and handed off to Ryan Tatusko. The righty worked around a leadoff single to post a scoreless seventh inning.

Following Perez's game-breaking double, reliever Erik Davis took over in the eighth. He collected his fourth save with two scoreless innings that were loaded with game-saving plays.

With two outs in the eighth inning and Juan Centeno at second, Pedro Zapata waved at the third strike from Davis. The ball kicked free from Ivany and the catcher's throw to first evaded Tim Pahuta. Centeno tried to score from second, but was gunned down as Pahuta recovered and fired home to end the inning.

In the ninth, Matt den Dekker led off the inning with an infield single. With one out and Jefry Marte hitting in a 2-2 count, den Dekker broke for second. Marte struck out swinging and den Dekker was called out on batter's interference to end the game.

McHugh (5-4) allowed four runs on six hits over 6.2 innings of work in the losing effort. Two of his runs scored under Carson's watch. Carson suffered his second blown save of the year. Tatusko (1-1) collected his first win of the season.

The B-Mets (26-29) look to avoid the sweep Thursday night against the Senators at 7:00 PM. RHP Zack Wheeler takes the mound against LHP Danny Rosenbaum. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show for the day's action begins at 6:45 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
