
'Wolves kick off the weekend right

The SeaWolves took down the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in the opener of a three-game series at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Friday night by a score of 9-4.
The SeaWolves took the lead in the top of the second inning. Dusty Ryan led off with a bloop single to right and with one out, Kody Kirkland homered over the wall in center to put the âWolves ahead 2-0. The home run for Kirkland was his fourth on the season and his first since May 29 against Reading.
The Fisher Cats would take the lead in the bottom of the third against Erie starter Josh Rainwater. After striking out the first two batters of the inning, Rainwater gave up back-to-back singles to Scott Campbell and Aaron Mathews. Travis Snider connected on a bloop double to right, plating two runs, tying the game at 2-2. Jacob Butler followed with an infield single and on an errant throw by Kirkland, Snider scored, giving New Hampshire a 3-2 lead.
The âWolves tied the game in the top of the fourth. Kirkland led off with a single for his second hit in the game and was doubled over to third on Casper Wells first Double-A hit. Kirkland scored on a sacrifice fly by Will Rhymes to make it 3-3.
Erie regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Jeff Frazier reached on an error by the third baseman Anthony Hatch. Ryan followed with his eighth home run, over the wall in right center, giving the âWolves a 5-3 lead.
The âWolves would add to the lead in the sixth when Justin Justice led off and connected on his second home run of the season. The solo shot made it 6-3 Erie.
Erie would go ahead by six runs in the top of the seventh inning. Ryan led off with a walk, reaching base for the fourth time in the game. Deik Scram followed with a hit to put runners on the corners for Kirkland. Kirkland singled to center, scoring Ryan, making it a 7-3 game in favor of the âWolves. Kirkland finished the game 4-for-5. It was the first four-hit game of the season for Kirkland. Wells then walked to load the bases. With one out, Rhymes laced a single up the middle, bringing home a pair, making it 9-3 Erie.
The Fisher Cats would get a run back in the bottom of the eighth to cut Erie's lead down to five at 9-4 when Hatch scored on a Kirkland error.
Rainwater (4-2) picked up the win, his second in as many starts since coming off of the disabled list. He worked five-plus innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts, tying a season-high.
