
Sea Dogs can't get out of Aeros' path

(Portland, ME) - Scott Lewis (1-0) retired the first 14 batters faced and fired five scoreless frames, leading the Akron Aeros (32-26) to a 6-1 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs (36-23) on Friday night at Hadlock Field. LHP David Huff was slated as the original starter for Akron but was promoted to Triple-A Buffalo earlier in the day.
The Sea Dogs ended Lewis's perfect game in the fifth inning on back-to-back singles by Mark Wagner and John Otness. The lefty allowed just two hits without a walk and fanned three. Lewis was assigned to Akron before the game from Extended Spring Training.
Dustin Richardson (5-5) suffered the loss for Portland, surrendering six runs on eight hits and three walks in just three innings of work. Kyle Jackson hurled four scoreless frames in relief of Richardson, allowing three hits on two walks while fanning four. Beau Vaughan pitched the final two frames for the âDogs, scattering two hits and fanning one.
The Aeros scored three times in the first inning on a two-run double by Bronson Sardinha and a run-scoring single by Matt Whitney. Akron added a two-spot in the second inning on RBI singles by Josh Rodriguez and Wes Hodges. Stephen Head knocked in the sixth run with a lead-off homer in the third inning.
Reid Santos tossed three scoreless innings for Akron in relief of Lewis. He allowed only one hit, a lead-off double by Iggy Suarez in the sixth inning. T.J. Burton worked the ninth inning and allowed Portland's lone run on a sacrifice fly by Sandy Madera.
Jeff Corsaletti (single), Otness (single), Suarez (double) and Wagner (infield-single) collected the four hits for Portland.
The Sea Dogs and Aeros play game two of their series on Saturday night at Hadlock Field - game time is 6:00 PM. Portland has yet to name their starter; LHP Chuck Lofgren (1-3, 5.54) gets the start for Akron.
