Late flurry dooms Senators, 9-2
June 6, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - The Bowie Baysox rallied with eight runs in the final two innings to beat the Harrisburg Senators, 9-2, Friday at Commerce Bank Park. The Baysox took sole possession of first place in the Eastern League's Southern Division.
Harrisburg RHP Marco Estrada and Bowie LHP Craig Anderson locked horns in a pitcher's duel for the first seven innings. Estrada allowed a home run to Kennard Jones to lead off the 3rd inning which made it 1-0 Baysox, and it stayed that way into the 7th.
Anderson bettered Estrada through six, retiring the first 18 batters he faced. An error on a foul pop-up was the only blemish on an otherwise perfect game. In the 7th, Garrett Guzman drove a two-out double to the gap in right-center and Luke Montz followed with a home run, his 12th, to give the Senators a 2-1 lead.
It went south for the Senators in the 8th, as Estrada gave up a two-out single and a walk before exiting. RHP Zech Zinicola came on and gave up a walk and back-to-back RBI singles which gave Bowie a 4-2 advantage.
The Baysox tacked on five more runs in the 9th. After a two-out fly ball was lost in the lights to keep the inning going, Jeff Nettles capped the rally with a three-run homer to right to make it 9-2 Baysox.
Estrada was saddled with the loss despite working into the 8th inning. He went 7.2 innings, allowed three runs on six hits, walked three and struck out four. Kam Mickolio picked up the win with 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Baysox upped their record to 35-25 with the victory. The loss dropped the Senators to 34-25.
The three-game series continues Saturday at Commerce Bank Park. First pitch is slated for 6:05 PM with Bowie RHP Brad Bergesen taking the mound. His opponent was not announced as of Friday night.
