
Zach Daeges of the Portland Sea Dogs is named the Eastern League Player of the Month

Portland, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Portland Sea Dogs outfielder Zach Daeges has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of May. After spending nearly three weeks on the disabled list with a sprained wrist, Daeges returned to the Portland lineup on May 3rd and hit a league-best .414 (36-for-87) with 11 doubles, one triple, one home run, 17 runs scored, 14 RBI, 29 walks, one stolen base, a .556 on-base percentage and a .598 slugging percentage in 26 games during the second month of the season. The 24-year old had a hit in all but three of the games he playing in during the month and reached base in all of those games as part of streak of 32 consecutive games in which he reached base from April 9th through June 2nd, which is the longest streak by any player in the Eastern League this season. Zach, who is a native of Omaha, Nebraska, was especially impressive during the week ending May 18th when he hit .400 with five doubles, seven RBI and six runs scored and was selected as the Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week. The 6'4", 225 lb. slugger has continued his hot hitting for the Sea Dogs into the month of June and he is currently fifth in the league in batting with a .341 average. Daeges is also ranked second in the league in on-base percentage (.471) and fourth in OPS (.964) and he has drawn a team-high 35 walks despite playing in just 39 games due to his wrist injury. Zach, who was selected as a California League All-Star and led league in RBI (113), runs scored (124), hits (170) and doubles (55) as a member of the Lancaster JetHawks last season, was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the sixth round of the 2006 draft out of Creighton University, where he hit .350 with 13 homers, 49 RBI and a .496 on-base percentage as a senior.
