Chicago Wolves News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves built a three-goal lead in the first period and held on to edge the San Antonio Rampage, 3-2, at the Allstate Arena Wednesday night.
The win was the fifth straight for Chicago (34-17-0-4), which now holds a three-point edge for first place in the West Division.
Oak Park native Patrick Galivan and forwards Matt Anderson and Joey Crabb provided the Wolves offense, while goaltender Drew MacIntyre (14-11-1) thwarted 32 of 34 shots he faced to collect his sixth straight victory.
"In the second period they came out and took the game away from us, so it was fortunate we had that one-goal lead," said Wolves Head Coach Don Lever. "We played well in the third period and were able to hang on."
The Wolves took a 1-0 lead, 3:53 into the first period. Left wing Reid Simpson won the faceoff and sent the puck out to defenseman Arturs Kulda at the blue line. Kulda sent a long blast toward the net and Galivan redirected it past San Antonio netminder Justin Pogge.
Crabb made Chicago's lead two when he took a pass from Anderson low in the slot, pulled to the outside and slipped a shot between Pogge and the post at 8:10 of the opening period.
Anderson cranked a slapshot from the blue line that found its way under Pogge to give Chicago a 3-0 edge 10:56 into the contest.
Pogge (10-6-3) turned aside 28 shots for the Rampage.
San Antonio (24-21-3-6) got on the board, 2:31 into the second period with a shorthanded goal from defenseman David Schlemko. The blueliner drove toward the Wolves net and fired a shot, which MacIntyre stopped, but Schlemko picked up his own rebound behind the net and stuffed it over the goal line.
The Rampage pulled within one, 3-2, when Schlemko tallied his second marker of the game, roofing a rebound up over MacIntyre out of a scrum in front of the net at 12:39 of the middle frame.
The Wolves visit Carver Arena on Friday to battle the Peoria Rivermen at 7 p.m.
