BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Lowell Devils in the shootout, 3-2, on Wednesday at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Devils goaltender Mike McKenna stopped 32 shots through overtime as his team's winless streak extended to seven games.
Holding a 2-1 lead in the third period, Lowell saw Greg Moore even the contest on the man-advantage when he redirected Mark Flood's blueline shot under the pad of McKenna at 6:08. The tied score would hold through the rest of third period and overtime despite a power play for each team in the extra session.
In the shootout, Patrick Davis kept the Devils alive with a goal in the top half of round five, but Robin Figren gave the Sound Tigers the victory on the final shot when he tucked a forehand inside the near post.
The Devils were able to break the scoreless tie in the first period thanks to an early 5-on-3 advantage. As the Sound Tigers were getting a man out of the penalty box, Michael Swift was firing home a rebound past a diving Scott Munroe at 8:01 of the frame for his 13th of the year
Brad Mills made the score, 2-0, at 3:06 of the second with his ninth of the season. Having lost his stick in the far corner, Mills got back into the play in time to have Rob Davison's point shot deflect to him and put back the loose puck.
Four minutes later, Bridgeport cut the Devils' lead in half when Jesse Joensuu found Greg Mauldin in front of the crease for a one-timer past McKenna.
The Lowell Devils host the Manchester Monarchs on Friday, Feb. 19 on 7:00PM. Go online to AHLlive.com for all of the live Devils action. For tickets to Lowell Devils home games, call (978) 458-PUCK or go to www.lowelldevilshockey.com.
