Crunch Shot Down by Stars
Syracuse, NY (February 17, 2010) - Regulation goals from Mathieu Beaudoin and Aaron Gagnon and a 23-save effort from Richard Bachman helped lift the Texas Stars to a 3-1 win over the Syracuse Crunch tonight at the War Memorial at Oncenter. David Liffiton tallied the Crunch's only marker and Kevin Lalande stopped 23 of 25 shots in the loss.
The game was scoreless until Texas finally broke the stalemate at the 13:08 mark of the second period when Beaudoin put home the rebound from a point shot by teammate Garrett Stafford on the power play.
The Crunch answered back 7:42 into the third period to knot the game at 1-1 when Liffiton's blast from the point found its way through traffic and past Bachman to pump some life back into the home crowd.
Gagnon staked his team a lead they wouldn't relinquish just under three minutes later when he roofed the puck over Lalande to make it 2-1 after getting tangled up in a footrace with Nick Holden.
Texas' Greg Rallo capped the game after he intercepted a cross-ice feed and punched it in the empty net with 37 seconds left in regulation.
Lalande was solid all night and kept the Crunch within striking distance by making a sprawling left leg save with just over a minute left in the second period to hold the deficit at one goal.
CRUNCHABLES: The Crunch have had just 11 power play opportunities over the last four games...Syracuse finished the season series against Texas with a 0-1-0-1 record...The Crunch scored just once tonight after lighting the lamp for a season-high seven goals on Sunday at Providence.
