Stars Crunch Syracuse 3-1

Syracuse, NY - The Texas Stars (31-18-3-4, 69 points) defeated the Syracuse Crunch (23-26-3-3, 52 points) 3-1 on Wednesday night in front of 4,387 fans at the Onondaga County War Memorial. Center Aaron Gagnon broke a 1-1 halfway through the third period to give the Stars a victory and help Texas move into second place in the AHL's West Division. Rookie goalie Richard Bachman (3-1-0) stopped 23 shots for his second straight win. Forwards Greg Rallo and Mathieu Beaudoin also scored, as Texas improved to 15-8-2-2 on the road this year. Crunch goalie Kevin Lalande (16-14-2) suffered the loss with 23 saves. Texas continues a five-game road trip at Toronto on Friday, February 19th at 6:00 PM.

The game stayed scoreless for the first 33:08 of play. Texas forward Mathieu Beaudoin broke the scoreless tie with his 14th goal of the season at 13:08 of the second period. Beaudoin scooped up a rebound in the Syracuse crease and flipped the puck over Crunch goalie Kevin Lalande for the 1-0 lead. Forward Perttu Lindgren and Garrett Stafford were each credited with an assist on the power-play goal.

In the third period, Syracuse tied the game 1-1 just 7:42 into the final frame. Defenseman David Liffiton beat Texas goalie Richard Bachman with a slapshot from the left point for his third goal of the year. The Stars countered at 10:35, center Aaron Gagnon split the Crunch defense and scored as he was pulled down on the play. Gagnon's 13th goal of the year was set up by Scott McCulloch. The Stars sealed the win with an empty-net goal by Greg Rallo, who scored his team-leading 17th goal of the year with 37 seconds left for the 3-1 final.

Texas continues a five-game road trip at Toronto on Friday, February 19th at 6:00 PM. The Stars travel to Grand Rapids on Sunday, February 21st for a game at 6:00 PM. The team returns home on Friday, February 26th at 7:30 PM to host the Houston Aeros in the State Farm Lone Star Faceoff.
