Connecticut Whale News Release
Hartford, March 6, 2006: The Hartford Wolf Pack announced today that the "Tip-A-Player" charity dinner, held on February 20, netted a record-breaking $59,000. The third annual event featured the team serving their guests dinner "on the ice" at the Civic Center as they competed for tips to raise funds for Gaylord Hospital.
This year's event featured food provided by area restaurants and also included a Sports Carnival in the Exhibition Center, a silent auction, raffles and contests and a player competition to see who could raise the most "puck bucks" tips. The "Tip-A-Player" Wolf Pack fundraising champion was defenseman Martin Grenier, closely followed by goaltender Al Montoya. The funds raised this year were more than double last year's total of $27,000. The event raised $23,000 in its first year.
Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, CT is a 103 year old long term acute care hospital specializing in rehabilitation and medically complex patient care. The funds that were raised at this year's "Tip-A-Player" event will be used to purchase new equipment in the Inpatient Therapy Gym for physical, occupational and speech therapy.
The Hartford Wolf Pack Community Foundation would like to thank all of the generous sponsors of this worthy cause, including presenting sponsor Aetna. Special thanks to Chef Jay Volk of Nextel Coliseum Club and Billy Grant of Grant's Restaurant and Bricco's in West Hartford, who worked together to spearhead the effort. Additional thanks to the following area restaurants who donated delectable appetizers, entrees and deserts: Coach's Sports Bar & Grill, The Elbow Room, U.S.S. Chowder Pot, Nextel Coliseum Club, Buck's Corner Pizza & Restaurant, Anna's On Main, Spris Restaurant, Black Eyed Sally's, Agave Grill, Little Mark's Big BBQ and Mozzicato's Bakery.
The AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack hockey club is part of Madison Square Garden LP. Cablevision Systems Corporation owns a controlling interest in MSG LP, which also includes the New York Rangers (NHL), New York Knicks (NBA), the New York Liberty (WNBA), the MSG Network, Fox Sports Net and the Madison Square Garden arena complex.
