WEEK IN REVIEW

Wednesday, March 1: Phantoms 2, Springfield 1 - Martin Houle made 24 saves and Kiel McLeod and Riley Cote took care of the scoring as the Phantoms picked up a 2-1 win over the Springfield Falcons. Just four minutes into play, McLeod put the Phantoms on the board with his first AHL goal of the 2005-06 season. Cote scored at 14:05 of the second period, a tally that became the game-winner when Zdenek Blatny broke Houle's shutout bid with less than four minutes remaining.

Friday, March 3: Phantoms 3, Providence 2 - The Phantoms jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and held on for a 3-2 victory at the Wachovia Spectrum. Kiel McLeod and Jim Campbell scored first-period goals to give Philadelphia a 2-0 lead at the first intermission, and then Stefan Ruzicka made it a 3-0 game with a second period tally. The Bruins made things interesting with goals from Michael Schutte and Nathan Robinson in the second and third periods respectively. Martin Houle captured his fourth straight victory with 25 saves on 27 shots, while Brian Eklund took the loss with 27 saves on 30 Philadelphia shots.

Saturday, March 4: Phantoms 3, Hershey 4 -The Phantoms five-game winning streak came to a halt in a 4-3 loss to Hershey at the GIANT Center. Stefan Ruzicka gave the early lead to the Phantoms with a goal in the first period, but Hershey responded with two goals from Jared Aulin and one each from Eric Fehr and Boyd Kane to take a 4-1 lead into the third period. Jim Campbell tried to spark a comeback with two goals in the final frame, but the Phantoms could not quite dig out of the hole. Hershey goaltender Frederic Cassivi came out on top with 24 saves on 27 Philadelphia shots, while Jamie Storr took the loss with 20 saves on 24 shots over the first two periods. Martin Houle came in for the third period and stopped all eight shots he faced.

Sunday, March 5: Phantoms 1, Toronto 4 - Jim Campbell became the first Phantom this season to score in three consecutive games, but it wasn't enough as Toronto took an early three goal advantage and held on for the victory. Martin Houle took the loss with 28 saves on 31 Toronto shots. Jean-Sebastien Aubin made 20 saves on 21 shots for the victory and first-star honors.

UPCOMING OPPONENTS

Friday, March 10: Phantoms at Toronto, 7:30, Ricoh Coliseum-After falling to the Marlies this past Sunday, the Phantoms will travel to Toronto to finish the home-and-home series. This will be the second and final gathering this season for the teams. The Marlies come into the game with a record of 32-23-4-2, good for 70 points and fourth place in the Northern Division.

Saturday March 11: Phantoms at Hamilton, 7:00, Copps Coliseum - This will be the second and final game between the two teams this season. The last meeting was on December 16, when the Bulldogs claimed a 3-1 victory. Hamilton comes into the game with a record of 28-34-0-3, for 59 points and fifth place in the Northern Division.

CAMPBELL NOMINATED FOR AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Phantoms nominated Jim Campbell for the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week award this week. Campbell picked up points in all four of Philadelphia's games this week. He started with an assist in Wednesday's 2-1 win over Springfield, followed by a goal in Friday's 3-2 win over Providence. Saturday's game in Hershey was his best of the week, scoring two goals and adding an assist in the 4-3 loss. Campbell then closed out the week with Philadelphia's only goal in a 4-1 loss to Toronto on Sunday. Campbell received a post game star in three of the four games, earning the second star vs. Providence and the third star vs. Hershey and vs. Toronto.

PHANTOMS HONOR LOCAL MILITARY MEMBERS

On Sunday, Flyers radio broadcaster Brian Propp and the Phantoms welcomed several members of the military to the Wachovia Spectrum through the Burlington County Military Affairs Committee. The troops came on two busses from Fort Dix and received a police escort from the Pennsylvania side of the Walt Whitman Bridge to the Wachovia Spectrum. The group went on a tour of the building prior to the game, and afterwards went on a motor tour of the City Hall area of Philadelphia.

PHANTOMS NOTABLES

This week the Phantoms established a season-high five-game win streak with their 3-2 win over Providence on Friday...Sunday's game vs. Toronto was the first ever between the two clubs. The teams will finish the home-and-home series on Friday at Ricoh Coliseum... March was already the busiest month of the season for the Phantoms, but it was expanded when the team rescheduled the Feb. 12 game for March 1. Philadelphia is now four games into a 14-game month, 10 of which are at home... When the Phantoms held Springfield to an 0-for-8 night on the power play, it marked the first time in 10 games the Phantoms had not yielded a power play goal...The Phantoms enter the week with a record of 25-29-1-7 for a winning percentage of .468. In the franchise's first nine seasons, it has never finished with a below-.500 record. The 2002-03 team finished at .500 with a record of 33-33-6-8.

OUT AND ABOUT WITH THE PHANTOMS

The Philadelphia Phantoms took part in the National Education Association's Read Across America initiative last week, held in conjunction with Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2. Between Feb. 21 and March 2, seven players read hockey-themed children's books to kids at seven different schools around the Delaware Valley. The players also answered questions about their careers, asked kids hockey-related trivia questions for prizes, and signed autographs during their visits.
