Abbotsford Heat News Release
Omaha, NE - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights and Nextel are teaming up for Military Appreciation Night when the Knights play the Peoria Rivermen Saturday, March 25 at 7 p.m. at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. Nextel will provide game tickets to military personnel and their families, Red Cross volunteers, Strategic Air and Space Museum members and Nextel customers. Military personnel will be highlighted through a military recruitment information table, presence of the color guard and the National Anthem.
Tickets may be picked up at Nextel Retail Stores located at 721 S. 72nd St., across from the Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha; 2012 Cornhusker, Suite 600 in Bellevue; and, 6900 "O" St. Suite 124, in Meridian Park in Lincoln.
"We're pleased to have a valued corporate partner in Nextel to help us recognize members of our armed forces who are doing so much to protect us at home and abroad," said Doug Soetaert, Ak-Sar-Ben Knights' President. "We wanted to honor these men and women for that service and as well, recognize the American Red Cross for all it does in support of service people and their families."
During the game, Nextel will set up a phone bank to allow for free long distance/international calls during the game so loved ones can reach out to family and friends stationed throughout the United States and abroad.
"Partnering with the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, The American Red Cross and the Strategic Air and Space Museum to host a military appreciation night and salute our troops is an extension of our commitment to the community," said Mark Mason, general manager for Nextel Partners, Inc. "With military members and their families stretched across the world, we thought this would be a great opportunity for everyone to have a fun and relaxing night."
The Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross will be on-site, recording 2-minute "Vidi Connect" video e-mails. This free service allows friends and families to send video e-mail messages to military members overseas. Last year, the Heartland Chapter recorded and sent 412 video e-mails to military persons stationed around the world.
Fans will also be able to see the Strategic Air & Space Museum's Hummer which takes the Strategic Air & Space Museum beyond the physical building, sharing aviation, space exploration and history in exciting ways. The Museum also will be providing discount coupons.
