3/1/2006 Cleveland 1, Grand Rapids 5

The Barons wrapped up their five-game road trip with a 5-1 loss to Grand Rapids on Wednesday night. The Griffins scored the first period's only goal for a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes of play. Darryl Bootland fired home a rebound goal on the Griffins first power play chance of the night at the 11:10 mark of the frame. Kyle Quincey and Tomas Kopecky assisted on the goal. Three unanswered second period goals by the Griffins led to a 4-0 advantage through forty minutes of play. The AHL's top scorer, Donald MacLean fired home his 45th tally of the year on a breakaway just 1:34 into the middle period. Jiri Hudler, the AHL's third leading point scorer, scored his 30th goal of the season just 90-seconds later for a 3-0 lead. The final goal of the period came from Kent MacDonnell, whose quick shot from the slot area alluded Barons goaltender Dimitri Patzold at the 12:22 mark of the second period. The teams exchanged third period goals to finalize a Grand Rapids 5-1 win. Mike Iggulden scored the Barons only goal of the game on a power play at the 11:30 mark of the final period on assists from Lukas Kaspar and Tim Conboy. Grand Rapids matched Iggulden's 19th goal of the season as Nick Martens scored with just 48-seconds remaining in the game.

3/3/2006 Hamilton 3, Cleveland 0

Peter Vandermeer scored two goals and added an assist as the Bulldogs overtook the Barons, 3-0, Friday night. After more than a 40 minute delay due to unplayable ice conditions, the Barons and the Bulldogs skated against each other for the first time since December 22nd. Hamilton scored the game's opening two goals to earn a 2-0 lead through twenty minutes of play. Vandermeer scored the game's opening tally at the 4:38 mark with the help of Maxime Lapierre and Dan Smith. Corey Locke extended the lead to two with his 15th goal of the season. The Barons outshot the Bulldogs 11-7 in the second period, but failed to convert on four power play opportunities and the score remained the same after forty minutes. Vandermeer wrapped up a season best three-point night with his second goal of the game, leading the Bulldogs to a 3-0 win.

3/4/2006 Hamilton 1, Cleveland 4

Lukas Kaspar scored two goals and Nolan Schaefer made 22 saves as the Barons snapped a 10-game home winless stretch. The Barons opened up scoring for just the fifth time in their past 25 games as Kaspar's unassisted wrist shot beat Bulldog netminder Jaroslav Halak between the legs. The Bulldogs answered to end the period tied at 1-1. The Barons registered two unanswered tallies in the middle frame to hold a 3-1 edge after forty minutes of action. Kaspar's second goal came at the 11:58 mark on an assists from Shane Joseph and Tim Conboy. Mike Iggulden then scored the 20th goal of his rookie campaign to gain the first two-goal lead of the night for Cleveland. Josh Hennessy insured the victory with an empty net goal late in the third period.

3/10/2006 Cleveland @ Milwaukee - Bradley Center

The Barons take on the Milwaukee Admirals in the final of eight games this season. Cleveland trails in the season series, 2-4-1-0. Milwaukee is currently second in the West Division with a record of 39-17-5-2. They are led in scoring by Darren Haydar, who has 69 points (22-47-69) in 63 games. Haydar and Scottie Upshall have each earned 10 points against the Barons this season. Haydar has six goals and four assists and Upshall has five goals and five assists.

3/11/2006 Cleveland @ Omaha - Omaha Civic Auditorium

Cleveland matches up with Omaha for the second of two games this season. The teams last met on January 25th, when the Knights defeated the Barons 4-2. Omaha's Carsen Germyn earned a goal and an assist in the victory. Josh Hennessy and Josh Prudden each scored for the Barons.

3/12/2006 Cleveland @ Peoria - Carver Arena

The Barons take on the Peoria Riverman for the final time this season. Cleveland currently leads the series 2-1-0-0. The teams last met on Feb. 24th, when the Barons defeated the Rivermen 4-2. Patrick Rissmiller has seven points (1-6-7) this season against Peoria and Josh Hennessy has five points (3-2-5).

Barons Player of the Week

The Cleveland Barons Player of the Week is left wing Lukas Kaspar. Kaspar finished the week with three points (2-1-3) and a plus-one plus/minus rating. He also earned 1st Star of the Game honors on Saturday. The rookie forward has 12 goals and 16 assists in 61 games this season.

Home Fries

The Barons snapped a 10-game home winless streak (0-9-0-1) with their victory on Saturday against Hamilton. The victory improved their home record to 13-19-1-1 on home ice. They will play again at home on Thursday, March 23rd against the AHL's best, the Grand Rapids Griffins. Following that game, the Barons will kick-start the month of April with a five-game homestand to close out the regular season with a back to back weekend series against the Iowa Stars on the 1st and 2nd.

Drawing First Blood

The Barons have scored the first goal of the game in five of their past 25 games. During that time frame, the team holds a record of 7-16-1-1. The Barons are 14-11-2-1 when they score the first goal of the game and 9-26-0-0 when their opponent appears on the scoresheet first. The Barons lost in a shootout the one game in which neither team scored in regulation.

The "Young Guns"

The Barons have become the first AHL team in five years to have three rookies with 20 goal seasons. Barons rookie forwards Mike Iggulden and Josh Hennessy each scored their 20th goal of the season in the Barons game against Hamilton on Saturday. Right wing Steve Bernier, currently on recall to San Jose, also has 20 goals this season. The players sit at the top of the Barons stats sheet as well. Hennessy leads the Barons in scoring with 53 points (20-33-53) in 65 games and Iggulden is fourth on the team in scoring with 42 points (20-22-42) in 62 games.

The "Young Guns", pt 2

With 20-goal performances thus far this season, Bernier, Hennessy, and Iggulden are all within two goals of the Barons franchise mark for goals by a rookie. The current record belongs to Jon DiSalvatore, who accrued 22 goals in the 2003-04 season.

Rubbermaid Player of the Game

At the end of each game the Barons select a Rubbermaid Player of the Game, given to the player who displays toughness and durability throughout the game. At the end of the season, the player with the most selections will receive a prize package courtesy of Rubbermaid. Currently, Josh Hennessy leads the race for the Rubbermaid with eight selections and Mike Iggulden is in second place with six selections.

Player Appearances

On March 14th, Ryane Clowe will be speaking to the Cleveland Hockey Boosters Club meeting. Riley Armstrong and SlapShark will be making an appearance at St. Columbkille school in Parma on March 21st.

Breakaway With The Barons

The season's fourth and final National City Breakaway with the Barons, presented by the United States Air Force and WDOK SoftRock 102.1 will take place on Tuesday, March 21 at Iceland USA in Strongsville Ohio. The event had originally been scheduled for March 20. Each Breakaway features a one-hour Barons practice session, followed by a post-practice skate with the team. This is the perfect opportunity for fans to get photographs with and autographs from the team.

Barons Broadcasts

All games this season will be broadcast live and in their entirety on-line via the B2 Networks. Fans can enjoy the play-by-play action of Barons hockey provided by the "Voice of the Barons" Jamie Smock, by Crashing the Net at www.clevelandbarons.net. Fans can watch the game via B2 Networks' Live Video Stream of the game on a pay-per-view basis of $6.00 per game. There is also a free audio version of the broadcast offered. Every Barons game broadcast begins with a pre-game show 15-minutes prior to face-off.
