Wings Host Beast on Kalamazoo's Largest Piece of Art

January 6, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

KALAMAZOO, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings have transformed the ice at Wings Event Center into Kalamazoo's largest piece of artwork ahead of Friday's game, as they host the second annual Kids Paint the Ice game presented by Michigan Blood.

The Kalamazoo Wings welcomed Over 200 participants for the painting event on Sunday, in which the 200'x85' ice surface at Wings Event Center was painted with personal messages, intricate designs, and, in paying tribute to the Wings' mascot, several different interpretations of Slappy.

"The only thing better than seeing the kids having a blast painting the ice is to see their eyes light up when they see the game being played on their work," said K-Wings director of sales Toni Daniels. "We are so lucky to partner with great local organizations for this event as it continues to gain popularity in its second year."

The Wings were provided the paint by RepcoLite and teamed up with the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Wine and Canvas, Kalamadoodle, and the Kalamazoo Gay Lesbian Resource Center to supply the artists.

Kalamazoo will entertain the Brampton Beast on Friday at 7:00 p.m. for the first of three games in three days between the two teams. The last two games of the weekend series will be played at the Powerade Centre in Brampton, Ontario.

The Wings are 2-2-0-0 against Brampton this season, with both wins coming at Wings Event Center on December 11 and 12. The Wings are led against Brampton by David Gilbert, Justin Taylor, and Lane Scheidl, who have all registered three points against the Beast this season. Brampton is led by head coach Colin Chaulk, who spent two seasons (2013-15) as an assistant coach for Kalamazoo before being named to his current position.

The Kalamazoo Wings host the 2016 CCM/ECHL Hockey Heritage Week, presented by PNC Bank and Bronson Sports Medicine, from February 1-6 at Wings Event Center and throughout the city of Kalamazoo. The one-of-a-kind event features viewing/photo opportunities with the Stanley Cup, Hockey Hall of Fame exhibits and trophies, two games with the Toledo Walleye, and more. Group rates start as low as $12 per person for a group of six or more.

Single-game tickets are now on sale! Tickets can be purchased at kwings.com or at the Wings Event Center box office. Box office hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A $2 discount is applied on all tickets purchased before the date of the game. Any student that shows a valid ID can get tickets for just $10.
