Wings Fall Short in Wednesday Matinee
August 17, 2022 - International League (IL)
Rochester Red Wings News Release
The Rochester Red Wings were walked-off Wednesday afternoon, losing the ballgame by a score of 2-1. The four hour and eight minute (59 minute rain delay), low scoring affair marked the first time the Wings had lost in Worcester this year, breaking their 9-game winning streak at Polar Park.
The Wings got on the board in the first inning for the second straight game after a throwing error by Worcester allowed CF Andrew Stevenson to score. The Wings would leave the bases loaded without adding to their lead.
Before an out could be recorded in the top of the 5th, rain caused for the tarp to be called upon and play was suspended for 59 minutes. The delay ended rehabbing RHP Erick Fedde's day, a day in which he went four strong innings allowing three hits, striking out four WooSox and walking just one. The 2019 World Series Champion threw 63 pitches, 37 for strikes.
Upon resumption, RHP Patrick Murphy took over the pitching duties. He worked a clean fifth before loading the bases with no one out in the sixth before retiring three consecutive batters via the three strikeouts, holding Worcester scoreless.
C Taylor Gushue would pick off the tying run off of second base for the first out of the 7th. The righty would finish with 2.2 innings of work, striking out five, allowing one earned run (surrendered by Perez).
LHP Francisco Perez would relieve Murphy and walk the three men he faced, forcing in the tying run. RHP Andres Machado would come into the game and get the next batter to ground out, leaving the bases loaded.
The game would remain tied at one until the bottom of the ninth when Tristan Casas would then double in the game-winning run in the 9th with two away off RHP Reed Garrett.
The Wings left a total of 10 men on base.
RHP Joan Adon (0-1, 7.20) gets the ball for the Wings tomorrow night who will oppose Worcester's RHP Connor Seabold (5-1, 2.83). First pitch is set for 7:05 from Massachusetts.
