Buffalo Bisons News Release

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs slugged their way to a 15-4 victory over the Buffalo Bisons on Wednesday night at Sahlen Field.

The IronPigs struck for four runs in the top of the third inning to open up a 4-0 lead against Buffalo. Dalton Guthrie led off the inning and was hit by a Bowden Francis pitch, he would eventually score on a Johan Camargo two-run double. Scott Kingery added a pair of RBIs with a base hit to left field that extended the lead to four for the visitors.

Francis pitched well in his first two innings for the Bisons, recording five strikeouts of the six outs he was able to secure in the start. The righty was charged with two earned runs, with the other two runs the responsibility of Graham Spraker.

Eric Yardley worked 1.1 innings in relief without allowing a run. It helped the Herd answer back with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth to trim the deficit to three runs. Logan Warmoth scored from first on a line drive to right field that was misplayed by Dustin Peterson. Otto Lopez extended his hitting streak to 10 straight games thanks to the base hit that made it 4-1 IronPigs.

Lehigh Valley would then send 12 batters to the plate in the top of the fifth and score eight runs to break the game wide open 12-1. Peterson, and Ali Castillo had two-run base hits in the frame for the visitors. Chris Sharpe had a pair of hits in the inning that included a two-RBI double to cap the scoring.

The Bisons would surrender three more runs in the top of the sixth to fall behind the IronPigs 15-1. Jairo Munoz's fourth hit of the game produced a pair of runs.

Nathan Lukes' seventh inning base hit improved his batting average to a team best .301 on the season. He has hit safely in 11 of the last 13 games.

While the game didn't end how the Bisons had hoped, the night wasn't without some excitement for the Herd. Top prospect Gabriel Moreno wowed the fans in the ninth inning with a double to left that was hit so hard (110 mph off the bat), the ball stuck IN the wall!

The two teams are schedule to meet for game three of the series on Thursday afternoon for a 1:05 p.m. first pitch.
