
Wild Things Silence Freedom Bats in Opener

Washington,PA - Washington Wild Things starter Dayne Quist limited the Freedom(43-36) to only four hits and Washington went on to defeat the Freedom 5-1 Friday night at Consol Energy Park.
Quist(7-2) who earned his first victory in a Wild Things uniform pitched seven innings allowing four hits on one run. The lone mistake he made was in the fifth, when Freedom CF Nick Stein led off the inning by launching his first professional homerun over the left center field wall.
Washington took a 1-0 lead against Freedom starter Dan Osterbrock(1-1)in the first inning. Shain Stoner doubled to deep left center. He was advanced on a SAC bunt by Tim Williams. CJ Beatty scored Stoner on a SAC Fly.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the sixth, the Wild Things broke the game wide open against Osterbrock. Williams and Beatty started the inning by singling. With runners on the corners and nobody out, Quincy Latimore delivered a SAC Fly to make the score 2-1. The Wild Things would get another SAC Fly in the inning off the bat of Mark Samuelson. Stewart Ijames capped off the inning by tripling to right field scoring Jo Rosa.
Osterbrock worked 5.2 innings allowing eight hits and four earned runs in the loss. Washington scored their final run off reliever Michael Oros in the eighth inning. Rosa homered to left center.
Jim Jacquot led the Freedom with a 2-3 performance at the plate.
The Freedom will look to even up their three game series with Washington Saturday night. RHP Andy Clark(0-0, 5.40) will start for Florence. Washington will have RHP Shawn Sanford(8-4, 2.88) on the hill. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:50 on 1320 AM WCVG and online at gospel1320.com.
