Rockford Aviators News Release
NORMAL, Ill. - The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, climbed out of a 6-0 hole, but never took a lead as they lost 8-6 on the road to the Normal CornBelters Friday night.
Aviators starter Dan Meyer walked six batters, including four in the third inning to give the CornBelters some opportunities early and they cashed in to the tune of a 6-0 lead after three innings at the Corn Crib.
Meyer would finish strong, striking out the next five batters and retiring the next six before exiting with a no decision.
The Aviators, after scoring a run each in the fourth and fifth, scored four times in the sixth to tie the game at six. Brandon Newton picked up an RBI double and Jeff Kremer collected his second straight two-out RBI hit, this one brought in two.
Normal immediately regained the lead. Connor Little came in to pitch for Rockford and gave up two runs in the bottom of the sixth, as the right-hander was only able to get one out in the inning. Little took the loss, his first of the season.
Neither team would score in the final three innings, as the CornBelters collected the 8-6 win.
Jose Trinidad got the win in relief, while Alan Oakes collected his 11th save of the season for Normal.
