Beach Bums Fall Victim To Boomers' Comeback

SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums had a big 5th inning in a scoreless game, but fell the to the Schuamburg Boomers by a final score of 4-3 Friday night.

Traverse City finally scored off Boomers' starter Matt Kuna when Scott Woodward began the offense with a one-out single in the 5th. Ryan Still drew a walk to push Woodward into scoring position, then Matt Howard singled home Woodward for the first run of the ballgame. Two batters later Carlo Testa drove home both Still and Howard with a two-out double, putting TC on top 3-0.

The Boomers scattered four runs throughout the next three innings to take the lead and eventually the ballgame. Schaumburg took a run in the bottom of the 5th as Gerrard Hall scored on a wild pitch. Bubba Dotson inched the Boomers closer with a solo homerun in the 6th. The 7th inning proved to be the biggest jam for the Beach Bums as the bases were loaded with one out. A wild pitch allowed Sean Mahley to tie the game, and Frank Pfister then drove a fly ball to center field to sacrifice home Steve McQuail.

James Bierlein (2-1) picked up the win going two scoreless innings and striking out three. Chris Squires suffered the loss allowing three runs through 1.1 innings on one hit and three walks. Dexter Price (11) earned the save.

The Beach Bums and Boomers continue this series Saturday night at Schaumburg Baseball Stadium. Scott Dunn (14-0, 2.16) will take the mound for Traverse City against the Boomers' Seth Webster (3-1, 2.28). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
