Wild Escape with 4-3 Overtime Win
March 4, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - Jordan Schroeder capped off an odd-man rush 43 seconds into overtime with the game-winning goal to lift the Iowa Wild to a 4-3 win over the Texas Stars on Friday in front of 4,690 in attendance at Cedar Park Center.
Schroeder's overtime goal was the only blemish in net for Jack Campbell, who came on in relief for Texas to stop 17 of 18 shots. Brendan Ranford appeared in the 200th game of his pro career and tallied an assist for the Stars. With the loss, the Stars (33-20-5-3) split their four-game season series against Iowa.
Texas closes out their five-game homestand on Saturday when they host the Manitoba Moose.
Schroeder snapped his winning goal from the right circle on a 2-on-1 rush after Curtis McKenzie and Jason Dickinson both fell while driving the net at the opposite end of the ice on an offensive rush.
Texas staked an early 1-0 lead 1:21 into the first frame as Ranford drove hard to the right side of the crease, and centered a pass that redirected off the skate of Derek Hulak for the forward's 13th goal of the season. The Wild (19-33-3-4) punched back on the power play at 4:12 when Guillaume Gelinas let a shot fly through traffic from the left point to knot things at 1-1 after twenty.
At 1:36 of the second, Grayson Downing slipped a shot past Lagace that barely slid over the goal line to put the Wild on top 2-1. Moments later, former Stars captain Maxime Fortunus lashed a slap shot from the right wing on the rush that beat Lagace, and opened the door for Campbell to enter his first AHL action since Dec. 19.
The Stars wrestled back at the 4:59 mark with Gemel Smith setting up Esa Lindell in the left circle for a quick wrist shot to pull Texas within one. Texas tied the contest at 9:34 when Matej Stransky played his own rebound off the end boards and snapped it over the top of a scrambling Steve Michalek for his 14th of the season.
Michael earned the win on 15 saves. Campbell suffered the overtime loss after Lagace gave up three goals on 10 Iowa shots. It was Lagace's 10th start in the past 11 games for Texas.
Texas finished 0-for-2 on the power play. Iowa went 1-for-3.
The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and currently in their seventh season at Cedar Park Center. Full season, 24-game and 12-game ticket packages for the 2015-16 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit TexasStars.com.
