ST. JOHN'S, NL - In a penalty-filled game, the St. John's IceCaps prevailed, 3-1, against the Albany Devils Friday at Mile One Centre. The two teams, who share real estate in the North Division, combined for 26 infractions and 114 penalty minutes - 22 and 106 of which came during the second period.
The loss moves the Devils to 33-15-8-0, while the IceCaps improve to 25-23-7-3.
The majority of the scoring also came in the middle frame. The IceCaps netted all three of their goals during a one minute and 44 second span. Charles Hudon opened the scoring at 5:03, scoring off a rebound with the man advantage.
Then Ranger and McNally capitalized on a pair of Albany miscues that sent them into the offensive zone. Ranger found the net at 5:52 and McNally followed at 6:46.
The Devils broke through on a power play in the third period. Blake Pietila scored his seventh goal of the season, sending in a rebound on rush which included Max Novak and Reece Scarlett. The tally came at 5:03.
Yann Danis dropped his second straight decision for the first time since Jan 15 and Jan. 22. He made 24 saves. At the other end, Eddie Pasquale earned his eighth victory. He had 26 stops.
