SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Tanner Richard recorded a multi-point night, while Adam Wilcox put up a 29-save performance as the Syracuse Crunch topped the Portland Pirates, 3-1, tonight at the Cross Insurance Arena.

The Pirates were first on the board with a power-play tally early in the opening period, but the Crunch were able to comeback and knot the score before the first intermission with a marker by Yanni Gourde. Richard and Mike Angelidis joined in on the scoring in the second and third periods to take down the Pirates for the first and last time this season.

The victory advances Syracuse to 23-23-9-3 and evens the two-game series, 1-1. Portland sits at 31-21-2-1.

Crunch netminder Wilcox earned his seventh victory this season, turning aside 29 of 30 shots. Pirates goaltender Sam Brittain stopped 30 of 32 in defeat. Syracuse was unable to convert on three power play opportunities, but shut down 4-of-5 Portland man-advantages.

The Pirates were first on the board at the 4:57 mark of the first period. Connor Brickley beat Wilcox while on the man-advantage with a second chance shot. Mackenzie Weegar and Cameron Gaunce picked up the assists on the opening tally.

With 4:32 to go in the period, the Crunch evened the score. Daniel Walcott fired on the net from the left point. Brittain made the save, but left the rebound out for Gourde to chip in from the left goal post. Richard grabbed his first point of the night for the secondary assist.

The Crunch took the lead late in the middle stanza. Anthony DeAngelo let off a wrister from the left circle that was stopped, but Richard was parked in front of the cage to clean up the rebound for his eighth of the season. Tye McGinn recorded the secondary assist on the go-ahead tally.

With just five clicks remaining in the clock, Mike Angelidis added an empty net goal to secure a victory for the Crunch.

Syracuse travels to face the Springfield Falcons on Sunday at 5 p.m.
