Syracuse Crunch Trade Joey Mormina to Rochester Americans

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch have traded Joey Mormina to the Rochester Americans for future considerations, Crunch general manager Julien BriseBois announced today.

Mormina, 33, has skated in 30 games with the Crunch this season, posting three assists and 24 penalty minutes. Over his three seasons with Syracuse, the 6-foot-6, 229-pound alternate captain has skated in 140 games and posted 35 points (7g, 28a) and 180 penalty minutes.

During his 650 career AHL games with Manchester, Albany, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Adirondack and Syracuse, the Montreal, Quebec native has tallied 148 points (31g, 117a) with 801 penalty minutes and a plus-37 rating. Additionally, Mormina has appeared in 69 Calder Cup playoff games.

Mormina made his National Hockey League debut with the Carolina Hurricanes on Feb. 14, 2008, against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Prior to his professional career, Mormina spent four seasons at Colgate University from 2001 to 2005. In 141 contests, he accumulated 56 points (16g, 40a) and 156 penalty minutes.

Mormina was selected in the sixth round, 193rd overall, by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
