Falcons Allow Four Goals in Third Period to Lose 7-3

Rochester, NY - The Springfield Falcons suffered their second consecutive loss by falling to the Rochester Americans 7-3 on Friday night.

Greg Carey gave the Falcons the first goal of the game just four minutes in. His 25th of the year was scored on a partial break by firing a wrist shot past Nathan Lieuwen. Henrik Samuelsson and Alex Grant assisted on the goal. Bobby Sanguinetti tied the game at 12:18 with his seventh of the year that was assisted by Jerry D'Amigo and Michael Sdao. Eric O'Dell gave the Americans a 2-1 lead by catching Falcons goaltender Josh Robinson out of the net. His nineteenth of the year was assisted by Cole Schneider and Evan Rodrigues.

The Falcons were awarded a power play early in the second period with a chance to even the score. Brendan Shinnimin tied the game at two with his third goal of the year at 4:26 of the second period. Grant and Carey assisted on the goal. With under three minutes to go in the frame, O'Dell scored his second of the game with assists from Evan Rodrigues and Sdao.

Rochester extended their lead to a 4-2 score with a power play goal 5:16 into the third period. Chad Ruhwedel scored his fourth of the year with assists from Schneider and Justin Bailey to begin the convincing third period. Ruhwedel added another goal 2:18 later. His second of the night and fifth of the year was assisted by Rodrigues and Schneider. The scoring blitz continued as Matt Donvan scored his eight of the year 1:46 later. Jean Dupuy and Nick Baptiste assisted on the goal that put Rochester ahead by a 6-2 score. Alex Guptill continued the scoring 1:57 later with his first of the season. Colby Robak and Tim Schaller assisted. The Falcons power play would strike again as Grant powered a slap shot past Lieuwen for his tenth of the year and third point of the night. Philip and Henrik Samuelsson assisted on the goal to complete the scoring at a 7-3 game in favor of the Americans. Lieuwen's record moved to 14-9-1 with 23 saves. Robinson made 29 saves and fell to a 0-3-0 record.

The Falcons visit the Utica Comets tomorrow with a 7:00 p.m. faceoff. The team returns home to conclude the weekend with a 5:00 p.m. faceoff on Sunday night against the Syracuse Crunch.
