WHEELING, W.Va. - For the second night in a row, the Wheeling Nailers got off to a quick lead against the Johnstown Chiefs Saturday night and went on to outdistance their rival, 5-2. It was Wheeling second straight win over the Chiefs, who were playing without Alex Penner and Trevor Hendrikx tonight due to suspensions.

Ben Geelan gave the Nailers the lead midway through the first when he scored on a wrister that beat Johnstown goalie Ian Keserich low. Veteran forward Kelly Miller fed Geelan the puck on his goal. The Nailers took a 2-0 lead minutes later when Bo Cheesman flipped a top shelf backhander past Keserich for his second goal in three games.

The Chiefs cut the Nailers' lead in half early in the second on Blair Yaworski's goal. Kelly Miller reclaimed the Nailers' 2-goal lead when Johnstown committed a turnover at their own blue line. Miller took a pass from Mitch Ganzak and wristed his sixth of the season glove side.

Andy Contois' goal cut Wheeling's lead back to one goal early in the third, but the Nailers responded once again when Bryan Ewing scored his 39th of the season from right in front of the net. Luca Caputi put the nail in the coffin when he scored an empty netter with less than two minutes remaining to up the Nailers' lead to 5-2.

The win gave the Nailers sole possession of second place in the North Division. Cincinnati's 5-0 win over Reading kept the Cyclone's two points ahead of the Nailers in the division standings.

The Nailers return to home ice on Sunday March 15th when they battle the Johnstown Chiefs. All kids 14 and under can get in the game for just $5. For more information or to order tickets call 304-234-GOAL or online at www.wheelingnailers.com.
