Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (20-36-4= 44; 7th North Division) of the ECHL were shutout by the Cincinnati Cyclones, 5-0, at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. This marked the fourth time this season that the Royals have been shutout, and the second time in the last five games-both of those by the Cyclones. James Reimer (loss, 10-7-3; 34/39) lost for the first time in regulation this season to the Cyclones (3-1-1); while Ryan Nie (win, 29-20-2, 27/27) registered his first shutout of the season. Reading did not convert on any of the team's seven chances with the power play. Cincinnati's fifth goal came while they were playing with the man advantage (1-6).
Cincinnati scored 11:11 into the game when Tom Sawatske fired a blast from the right point that beat Reimer high to the blocker side. At 15:08 of the first, Cincinnati took a 2-0 lead when Ben Gordon finished a rush up ice by firing from the left hash mark after receiving a beautiful dish from Barrett Eghoetz out of the left circle. After a scoreless second in which the Royals killed four power play chances for the Cyclones, Cincinnati exploded for three more in a span of 1:43 early in the third. First, Ian MacKenzie finished a two-on-one break with an easy tap after beating the Royals' back-checker to right side of the net at 1:41; thirty-nine seconds later, Eghoetz finished another tap-in after a turnover at the defensive blue line resulted in another easy scoring chance; and 1:14 after that, Gordon bagged his second of the night by burying a rebound of a multi-shot chance from in tight while the Cyclones were playing with the man advantage. That pretty much did it for the Royals, who were unable to muster any legitimate comeback effort from that point forward.
The Royals faced the Wheeling Nailers at the Sovereign Center on Wednesday (March 11 @ 7:05 pm). Wednesday's game will be broadcast live on the Royals Radio Network Presented by Transmissions by Arbogast (True Oldies WRAW 1340 am in Reading; and The Ticket WLAN 1390 am in Lancaster), as well as on the internet via webcast hosted by Sportsjuice.com, which can be accessed through the Royals website.
