Victoria falls to Idaho 4-1.

Victoria Salmon Kings News Release


Boise, ID - In a Saturday night match-up the Victoria Salmon Kings and Idaho Steelheads met for the finale of their three-game set. Goaltender Julien Ellis started in net for the Kings while the Steelheads countered with Matt Climie.

Victoria scored the first goal of the game as Matt Kelly fired home a power play goal from the left point. Idaho would tie it up at 1-1 when Dan Welch would cut from the left half-wall through the slot and fire the puck past Ellis. The teams would be tied 1-1 through the first period.

Idaho would score three goals in a span of 1:40 with under five minutes remaining in the second period. Ben Nelson started the scoring when he deflected a Marty Flichel shot from the high slot on the power play. Then Bryan McGregor would score on a partial breakaway as he went from forehand to backhand and slipped the puck past Ellis. Idaho would score their final goal of the frame when Welch would get his second of the game when he cut through the slot and again fired a shot past a screened Ellis. The Steelheads led 4-1 through 40 minutes.

Idaho would play solid defense in the third and thwart the Kings on all attempts. Steelheads 4 Salmon Kings 1.

Victoria went 1/3=33% on the power play and Idaho ended 1/3=33%. The Steelheads out shot the Salmon Kings 34-27.

The Salmon Kings return to action at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Wednesday when the Ontario Reign comes to town for a four-game set. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m. The series continues on Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Tickets available at www.selectyourtickets.com.
