South Carolina Stingrays News Release

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/General Manager Jared Bednar announced today that rookie forward Nikita Kashirsky has signed with the team. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Kashirsky, 24, recently finished his senior season at the University of Norwich (Division III), leading the team in goals (17), assists (17), and points (34) while appearing in all 25 games en route to All-ECAC East First Team honors for the second straight campaign. In four years with the Cadets, the Moscow, Russia, native produced 144 points (73g, 71a) and 111 penalty minutes in 110 contests, finishing second in scoring during the 2007-08 campaign and claiming the ECAC East Rookie of the Year Award in 2005-06.

"I was impressed with his performance last summer at the Capitals' prospect camp," Bednar said. "It'll certainly be a transition going from D-3 hockey to the ECHL, but he's a talented and skilled player who has a knack for scoring. I'm looking forward to what he has to contribute."

Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot, 191-pound forward played one season for the Walpole Stars of the EJHL, totaling 48 goals and 18 assists for 66 points.

Kashirsky is expected to make his professional debut this evening as the Stingrays face the Charlotte Checkers at 5pm.
