Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Las Vegas controlled the first two periods, then hung on in the third to claim its first win in 11 games and deal Alaska its first loss in five, 2-1, in front of 4,495 Friday at Sullivan Arena.

The Wranglers entered Friday's game with a club-record 10-game winless streak (0-6-4), while the Aces (34-21-3 overall) had won four straight games and six of its last seven overall as well as 11 of its previous 12 at home. In addition, Las Vegas played with 11 skaters most of the way, after an apparent injury to defenseman Bret Tyler and a game misconduct for spearing that was assessed against Peter Ferraro in the second period.

Ferraro set up the game's first goal before his premature exit, however, as Kelly Czuy snuck a wrist shot past Alaska starter J.P. Lamoureux at 11:13 of the opening period, in which the Aces managed just five shots on goal. The Ferraro penalty led to the equalizer at 8:16 of the middle frame, a power play goal scored by Colin Hemingway. Peter's twin brother, Chris, scored on a slap shot off the rush from the right circle with 4:45 left in the second period, leaving the score 2-1 heading to the final 20 minutes.

Alaska mounted a furious push in the third period, out-shooting Las Vegas 12-4, but never managed to beat Glenn Fisher, who made 12 of his 24 saves in the final stanza.

The Aces now sit a point out of the West Division lead, as Idaho beat Victoria 6-5 Friday to take over the top spot for the first time this season.

The series continues tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. (afterwards, make sure to set your clocks one hour FORWARD) and Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on the flagship home of Alaska Aces hockey, KFQD AM 750, with Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
