The Week That Was

---December 5th-RAPID CITY RUSH 3, QUAD CITY MALLARDS 2 (RC: D.Clarke-GWG with 2:28 left in game)

The Mallards picked up from where they left off against the Rush, and asserted themselves early. Just 1:51 into the game on their first man-advantage of the game, Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel would receive a rebound right at the point, which he sent in to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Moments later, Johan Ryd netted his goal in front of the net, his first in a Rush uniform, tying the game at 1-1 with 9:07 left in the first. Almost five minutes later, the Rush received their second power play of the game of the game, and it would cost the Mallards. Scoring his third goal in a Rush uniform was Robin Soudek, who took a one-timed pass from Steve Kaunisto and Sean Erickson and gave the Rush a 2-1 lead heading into the second period. The Rush took their 2-1 lead through a scoreless middle frame, and in the final moments of the game where hostility was in full flight, the Rush would emerge on the positive side of the outcome. Adversity befell the Rush when the Mallards Pearce Eviston scored his first professional goal on the final Mallards power play of the night, tying the game at 2-2 with 7:14 left in regulation. However, things finally changed for the Rush. With 2:28 left in regulation, Dylan Clarke tipped in a Riley Weselowski shot for the game-winner past Evan Mosher, giving the Rush a much-needed victory in a 3-2 win, ending their franchise-record losing streak at 8 games.

---December 6th-QUAD CITY MALLARDS 3, RAPID CITY RUSH 2, F/SO (QC: J. Perry-SO GWG; RC-D. Tetrault- GTG in 2nd Period)

Two nights in a row it was "dejà vu all over again." The Mallards jumped out first, this time 10:15 into the game with Joe Perry putting the visitors up 1-0 on a turnaround shot in the slot. Moments later, Johan Ryd triggered a shower of teddy bears and tied the game two nights in a row in the first period, equalizing the game at 1-1 with 4:20 left in the opening frame, a score that would carry into the middle act of the performance. The Mallards jumped back on top in the second just 5:42 into the second, on an awkward bounce off the kick plate due to a Justin Fox shot. It went off of a diving Landon Oslanski and in, giving the Mallards a 2-1 advantage. Later in the frame, the Rush would receive a second power play and Daniel Tetrault unloaded a bomb to Parker Milner's net in the top shelf to even the game again heading into the third. A scoreless third period with countless opportunities for either side led to extra-curricular activity, which would provide the sellout crowd at Premier Home Mortgage Ice and Rushmore Plaza Civic Center with an entertaining extra five minutes. That too would prove to not be enough, and a shootout would commence shortly after. After both teams went scoreless in the first two rounds, former Rush forward Logan Nelson got the visitors on the board. J.P. Chabot immediately countered for the Rush, but Joe Perry (eventual game-winner) and Nick Grasso would score on their shots, leading to a 3-2 Mallards win, ending their losing streak at 6 games.
