Walleye Notes
ÃË Five in a Row! Toledo started the two game eastern swing with a 6-4 win at Reading on Thursday night. The Walleye jumped ahead of Reading 3-0 in the first period and never looked back. Saturday night was more of the same for Toledo in a 6-2 win at Elmira.
ÃË Tying a Record! Toledo is off to the best start in Walleye history with a record of 14-3-1. The previous Walleye best record in 18 games was 10-7-1 set in the 2012-13 season. The all-time Toledo ECHL best start was set in 1995-96 at 14-3-1 and matched by the 2002-03 Storm team.
ÃË Power Play back on Track! After going consecutive games without scoring a goal, the Walleye power play broke out Saturday scoring four goals in five opportunities. Toledo has the number one power play unit in the ECHL at 32.9%.
ÃË Goals Everywhere! Since losing to Greenville 6-3 on November 21, Toledo has scored 33 goals in the last five games. That is the best five game stretch in Walleye history. The previous best was 27 scored over five games January 9-17, 2010.
ÃË Getting out to a Fast Start! Toledo scored first in both games this past week and are 13-0-0 when they get the first goal of a game. The Walleye are the only team in the ECHL to have won every game this season when they have scored first.
ÃË Rolling Along! Anthony Luciani has scored at least one goal in six consecutive games and has picked up at least one point in 16 of the 17 games he has played. Marek Tvrdon is currently on a seven game point streak with three goals and eight assists. Tyler Barnes has five goals and five assists in a five game point streak
ÃË Busy Week Ahead! Toledo has one of the busiest stretches of the season upcoming this week with five games to be played. Tuesday night, the Gwinnett Gladiators will be in Toledo. Toledo split with Gwinnett down in Georgia in early November. Wednesday the Walleye will travel to Wheeling to take on the Nailers for the first of seven meetings this year. Friday and Saturday features a home at home between Toledo and Kalamazoo. The Walleye won the first meeting this year 6-4. The week wraps up Sunday evening in Fort Wayne. Toledo has bested the Komets in the first two games this year.
