Manchester Monarchs News Release
LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have recalled forward Kevin Westgarth from the Monarchs and have placed forward Oscar Moller on the injured reserve list (retroactive to January 7), Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
Westgarth, 24, has played in 37 games with Manchester this season, recording five points (1-4=5) and 104 penalty minutes. His 104 penalty minutes rank second on the Monarchs and tied for 19th in the AHL. Westgarth had 12 points (6-6=12) and 191 penalty minutes for Manchester last season. His 191 penalty minutes ranked second on Manchester and second among AHL rookies. The 6-foot-5, 241-pounder from Amherstburg, Ontario signed with the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on March 16, 2007 and finished the 2006-07 campaign with the Monarchs, posting three points (1-2=3) and 24 penalty minutes in 14 games. Westgarth, who has not played in the NHL, will wear No. 33.
Moller, 19, has played in 30 games with the Kings this season, his first in the NHL, and has 13 points (6-7=13) and 14 penalty minutes. He suffered a fractured clavicle at the recently concluded World Junior Championships and has missed the last three Kings games with the injury. Moller was Team Sweden's captain at the World Junior Championships and he recorded four points (1-3=4), four penalty minutes and 23 shots on goal in six tournament games as the Swedes went 5-1 and earned a silver medal for the second consecutive year. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder from Stockholm, Sweden was drafted by the Kings in the second round (52nd overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
The Monarchs return to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday, January 16 with a 7:30 p.m. contest with the Rochester Americans.
